Diapontia Islands: The Silent End of Greece
They say that the Diapontia Islands are full of lazy shores and turquoise waters. Let us take you to the edge of Greece and show you why Othoni, Ereikoussa and Mathraki still feel authentic, untouched, and beyond time.
Ereikoussa: Welcome to the Diapontia Islands
Here, time slows down and everything feels far removed from the rest of the world.
Ereikoussa, the second largest of the Diapontia Islands, welcomes you with soft sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and a calm atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for the experience ahead.
Othoni: The Edge of Greece
Othoni is the largest island of the Diapontia Islands and the northwesternmost point of Greece , the place where Greece truly ends.
Its coastline is mostly steep and rocky, but it hides unexpected beauty beneath the surface, including a rare and accessible shipwreck resting just 10 meters underwater. Visible even to snorkellers and beginner divers, it offers a unique experience, as a sunken tanker that few places in the world can present so easily.
Passing Cape Boka, the northwesternmost cape of Greece, the journey continues to the Calypso Cave — a vast natural formation carved by the sea. Pristine and untouched, it reveals extraordinary colors and light reflections, with an interior large enough to explore from one side to the other.
Next to the cave lies White Sand Beach (west of the island) — one of the most famous beaches in Greece. Known in Greek as “Aspri Ammos”, it is a striking coastline of white sand, smooth pebbles, and crystal-clear blue waters. Above it rises a dramatic steep rock formation, creating a powerful contrast between the calm sea below and the rugged cliffs above.
Mathraki: The Island of Absolute Silence
Mathraki is the smallest of the Diapontia Islands, a place where silence is not just a feeling, but the essence of everything. Here, there are no crowds, no noise, only the sound of birds and the sea, creating a rare sense of pure stillness.
Its coastline is defined by untouched nature and crystal-clear waters. One of its most remarkable spots is Portello Beach, a long sandy stretch that extends for almost 2 kilometers. Spacious, quiet, and completely unspoiled, offering a rare feeling of total freedom and isolation.
Mathraki is not about attractions or activities. It is about slowing down, breathing deeply, and experiencing the most authentic form of island life... pure, minimal, and completely untouched.
Still thinking about it? Experiences like this are rare! Not just in Greece, but in the world.
